Make 2022 The Year of Breakthroughs

It has been a long two years. Between the COVID-19 pandemic, racial unrest, economic uncertainty, extreme polarization, and a twice postponed General Conference, there is a lot of anxiety and uncertainty. Our leaders are tired, our volunteers are not sure about returning, and we are unsure what is next. 

Yet, now more than ever, the world needs the Good News. Jesus still calls the Church to make disciples of new people in new places. Now, more than ever, we need a God-sized breakthrough in our churches! 

But where do we start?

We start on January 8^th with the Breakthrough Prayer workshop with Rev. Sue Nilson Kibbey. 

Sue is a United Methodist minister in the West Ohio Conference, the author of books like Flood Gates: Holy Momentum for a Fearless Church and Open Road: The Adventure of a Breakthrough Prayer Initiative. She currently serves as Director of the Bishop Bruce Ough Innovation Center at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. 

Each congregation is encouraged to send their pastor and at least 4 laypeople to the workshop. Teams can meet in person or together virtually.

Sue will lead your teams in a greater understanding of the role of prayer in leading change and motivate you to implement your own Breakthrough Prayer Initiative. In addition, you will hear from churches across the country, including some from the Elizabeth River District, about the impact a Breakthrough Prayer Initiative had on their church.

When: Saturday, January 8, 2022, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm

Where: Great Bridge United Methodist (201 Stadium Dr., Chesapeake, 23322) In-person and virtual

Cost: $40/Team of 5 or $15/Individual

The Challenge & Support

Each church that attends will be challenged to develop and implement its own Breakthrough Prayer Initiative. The district will provide additional support and resources that include, but are not limited to, follow-up workshops and coaching from leaders who have implemented a Breakthrough Prayer Initiative.
